Pre-requisite: Get To Know Your Sewing Machine class or experience using a sewing machine.

This introductory six-hour session will give you experience in the basics of sewing so you will have the knowledge and confidence to undertake projects on your own.  You will learn to understand, follow and cut out widely-available sewing patterns.  All participants will choose your own pattern; recommendations offered by instructor.

Get to Know Your Sewing Machine - $35

Friday November 15, 6-8:30 PM 

Saturday December 21, 10 AM - 12:30 PM

Familiarize yourself with either your personal sewing machine, or ours. We'll introduce you to the machine, including turning it on, threading it, learning the basic stitches and functions, and caring for it. You will leave this session feeling good about your beginner skills, with a handy packet of information to use at home. This is a great opportunity to learn a few basics. If you are bringing your own sewing machine, bring all the pieces and the manual (if you can find it!). If you don't own a machine, come get to know our machines. This workshop also includes taking your measurements, picking appropriate patterns and how to select fabrics and notions.

Reversible Apron - $40 plus materials

Saturday November 16 from 10AM-1PM

Sew a reversible apron with a pocket on one side in this class. Materials needed are: 1 yd of fabric for the "outside", 1.25 yds of different fabric for "inside", straps and pocket, and thread. Please launder and iron your fabric before class. Pattern will be supplied. Basic experience using a sewing machine is a pre-requisite. Cost $40.00 plus materials.

Roman Shades: Home Decorating - $100 plus fabrics and $10 materials fee to the instructor

Sunday, November 17 from 10AM - 3PM with sewing studio available for you until 5 PM

This 5 hour session will provide you with the skills and confidence needed to construct a roman shade. We will review the correct way to measure your window to ensure a proper fit. At the completion of this course you will have a functioning treatment and instruction on how to mount and install it in your home.  After the class you are welcome to use the shop machines, when available, to make another one to compliment the one you’ll work on during class time. $100 plus fabrics and $10 materials fee to instructor. Register early to get materials list & measurement instructions.

Holiday Open Sewing Workshop - $15 per session

Sunday, December 1 from 4-6 PM and/or Thursday, December 5 from 6-8 PM

Are you planning to give handmade sewn gifts but haven't carved out the time to work on them?  This is an open sewing workshop where you can work on any project of your choice.  A sewing instructor will be on hand to brain storm ideas or guide you through any construction hurdles.  Both workshops will feature samples of easy gift ideas and a brief sewing demo.  Demo topics are open for student input but may include:  mitered corner napkins, tea towel embellishments, lavender eye pillows, catnip toys or hand sewn Christmas ornaments.  Bring your own materials (including pre-washed and ironed fabric) and projects.  If you'd like to make eye pillows or catnip toys, please indicate so with registration.  Cost is $15 per person.  An extra materials fee of $5-$10 can be paid to the instructor if you end of using some of her supplies.

Improv Log Cabin Quilt Workshop for Kids & Adults - $180 + $10 materials fee to the instructor

Sundays, January 5, 12, 19 and 26 from 11AM - 2 PM

Learn to quilt and fine tune your basic sewing skills though this class. We will be learning how to use the traditional log cabin quilt block and give it a unique and updated look. Students can bring their own scraps and fabric, as well as purchase fabric from the shop. When thinking about planning this quilt, it is best to consider a large palette of many different prints, solids, scales, matching and non matching fabrics. Students will learn quilt basics: piecing, basting, quilting and binding. Finished quilt will be approximately 45 X 45.
Supplies needed: approximately 4 - 5 yards of various scraps of fabric of at least 10 different fabrics (fat quarters, small pieces, etc. Nothing smaller than 2" x 2"); 1/2 yard of fabric for quilt binding (this can be one of the fabrics you've already selected); 3 yards of fabric for backing (Can be up to 2 different fabrics. If choosing 2 fabrics, cut 1.5 yards of each).
Supplies provided: Batting for quilt
For kids 11 years of age or older and minimal experience with a sewing machine.

Studio Time - $20/hr

Want to come in and use our studio space? It's fully equipped with Singer sewing machines, a large cutting table, irons, etc. Staff would be happy to orient you to the space and machine, but studio time does not include any instructor time.
